In a momentous occasion for indigenous communities, a Danish museum has returned a revered cloak to its rightful owners in Brazil. The cloak, made of 4,000 red feathers from the scarlet ibis bird, was ceremoniously unveiled in Rio de Janeiro, attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
For over 300 years, the cloak had been on display at the museum in Copenhagen, having been taken from the Tupinambá people during the Portuguese colonial period. Its return signifies the importance of preserving indigenous cultures and securing their ancestral lands.
