In an alarming discovery, marine biologists have found that sharks off the coast of Brazil have tested positive for high levels of cocaine. Thirteen Brazilian sharpnose sharks, taken from the shores near Rio de Janeiro, were found to have concentrations of cocaine in their muscles and livers that were up to 100 times higher than what had been reported in other aquatic creatures. This groundbreaking research, conducted by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, is the first to identify the presence of cocaine in sharks.
