Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been instrumental in providing education opportunities for Black Americans since the early 19th century. These institutions were established when Black students were denied access to higher education due to racial discrimination. Today, HBCUs continue to have a significant impact, with 8 percent of Black undergraduate enrollment and 13 percent of all bachelor's degrees earned by Black students.
