The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is undergoing a major shakeup following the resignation of Commissioner Edward Caban. Caban stepped down just 14 months into his position after federal investigators subpoenaed his cell phone and the devices of several other NYPD officials. The investigations created a distraction for the NYPD, leading Caban to resign.
Mayor Eric Adams has chosen retired FBI official Thomas Donlon to temporarily lead the NYPD as the interim commissioner. Donlon was sworn in on Friday, immediately taking over the reins of the country's largest police department.
